This is the biography of Augusto José da Silva, commonly known as Dr. Augusto Silva, a most distinguished citizen of Lavras, who devoted his last existence to helping those in need, whether materially wealthy or poor. Dr. Augusto was a physician and the first mayor of the city of Lavras in the republican era. A Spiritist, he lived fully according to the Gospel of Jesus, practicing charity in its entirety.
This book recounts part of Dr. Augusto’s last existence and his presence now, as a Spirit, alongside the one who writes these lines—showing us that love, as taught by Jesus Christ, transcends the boundaries of death, giving life its highest meaning. Born into a traditional family, he set an example of humility and devotion, treating everyone, including the most humble, with profound respect.
Having fulfilled his role as head of the family, Dr. Augusto died poor, for what belonged to him he shared with those “who had nothing.” He did good for the sake of doing good, knowing how essential it is to fulfill the Law of God.
I offer my testimony as a medium, and I firmly believe that God is just. When I see the eternal Dr. Augusto smiling, I know that his devotion, dedication, and effort were more than worthwhile. Dr. Augusto stood by my side in the most difficult moments, and today, even if it may seem impossible, he shows that happiness is within reach—it depends on our seeking it within ourselves, where the Kingdom of God is found.
